The CMC Student Council invites all CMC students
to share their time and talents
this sem break to help the community
of Old Balara.
This area was affected by the same road-widening project that now
threatens RIPADA. The project was initiated by Sonny Belmonte and
supported by Bayani Fernando and is meant to ease traffic flow leading
to the planned central business district in the north and a supposed MRT
station near commonwealth. While we are not against development per se,
we are against projects that threatens lives, families, and livelihood
especially if the government - the initiators - offer no recourse for
those who will be affected.
A group of UP students who are actively campaigning with the residents
has recently succeeded in securing a relocation site in the
Marikina-Montalban boundary and garnering the support of Congressman
Matt Defensor.
But they need our help to inform and unite all the residents from the
areas near Tandang Sora all the way to Laura along Commonwealth Ave.
Also, we can help invite more students and supporters by using our
talents (film, writing, etc.) to help publicize this issue.
